Social media has been relentless in its creation of jokes and memes highlighting 50 Cent’s appearance at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. The source of most of the memes is 50’s upside down intro which was a nod to his “In Da Club” video from 2003 when he had a much smaller and chiseled frame. Social media responses ranged from “50 is now a buck 50” to “50 out here lookin’ like a FAT BAT.”
One would expect Hip Hop’s #1 internet troll to spit fire back at his critics, but he instead took the time to promote his new G-Unit streetwear and he hinted at a tour with his halftime cohorts. “Get your G-Unit Tank tops 7 Headbands Now” 50 tweeted. This morning (2/17) 50 tweeted “I call this teasing me. They are teasing me because they know that I can drop the weight. That’s why I laugh with them. Fat shaming only applies if you’re ashamed of your fat.”
Many social media users have described the body shaming as hypocrisy, pointing out the fact that Lizzo is seen as a hero for her celebrating her frame, while 50 is being roasted. Other users have posted a popular meme that states “You’re teasing 50 for being fat. You don’t look like you did when that song [“In Da’ Club] came out either."
