Alex, an instructor at Drum Hub, posted a video clip to YouTube of himself playing along to the drum patterns of every song on Nas' debut album Illmatic.

"It goes without saying that Nas- Illmatic is one of the most classic Hip-Hop albums of all time, so I thought it would be fun to notate the beat to each track on the album and have a play along!" the drummer wrote in the video description. "The beats on the album are made on a computer so this is my interpretation, there is also some variation throughout the tunes so that is worth bearing in mind if you are going to make a drum cover or whatever."

The drummer does an excellent job of recreating the drum patterns of the ten songs on the album which were produced by DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Large Professor, LES and Q-Tip.

Illmatic was long-awaited by those who caught Nas' clever wordplay on "Live At The Barbecue" with Main Source, and his singles "It Ain't Hard To Tell" and "Halftime." The 1994 debut is regarded by many as Nas' best, and many of his core fans compare each new album to it. Illmatic has become such a part of the popular culture even outside of Hip-Hop that Nas has performed the entire album with a full symphony orchestra at the prestigious Kennedy Center and other venues.
