The shooting of PnB Rock (born Rakim Allen) led to an online outpouring of grief and and shock. Nicki Minaj was among those commenting on the tragedy, urging rappers to not share their locations publicly online.
“After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts. To show waffles & some fried chicken????!” she wrote. “He was such a pleasure to work with. Condolences to his mom & family. This makes me feel so sick. Jesus. #SIP #PnbRock.” Rock was raised in Philadelphia and moved to L.A. after landing a deal with Atlantic Records. Fellow Philly native Meek Mill grieved the slain star.
"Rip dawg you didn’t deserve that," Meek tweeted. "Every time I see one of my friends bleed out on camera or killed on camera, I feel a sick feeling I can’t even really explain… it puts me more and more back in survival mentality!"
Raised in Los Angeles since he was a teen, Ice-T is very familiar with the city's culture, and how dangerous and seedy things can get in the City of Angels. He's tweeted frequently about street life and how it intersects constantly with entertainment in L.A.
“SuperBowlWeekend: Not a Threat, just a Warning,” Ice-T wrote on Twitter during the 2022 Super Bowl Weekend. “Young Rappers coming to LA for the Super Bowl weekend. LA has over 50Thousand ACTIVE Gang Members. Make sure you play it SAFE. It’s the Wild Wild West.”
