MC Lyte On Her Divorce: "I'm Still Going Through It"

MC Lyte was recently a guest host on The Real where she discussed the realities of going through a divorce. “I’m actually still going through it,” the Brooklyn rapper revealed. “When the press got a hold of it, I think people thought that we were already divorced. I had just filed, and so we’re still going through it right now.”

“I think in the beginning, I was very distraught," she continued. "I think there are phases whenever a relationship is ending, whether you’re married or not. It’s that first phase of, 'Oh my God, I’ve got to make this work for us.' Then it’s like, 'Oh my God, I’ve got to make this work for everyone else involved.'”

Lyte cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split according to PEOPLE. Lyte and John Wyche met on Match.com and were engaged in May of 2017. After three months they married in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Lyte says: “You get to the point where you’re like, this isn’t working. What really matters is that we end up in a happy place.” Lyte says that the fact that Wyche “doesn’t want to sign the papers” makes things even more difficult.

Lyte is focused on herself, her family, her work and her business these days. You may have heard her voice over work on various television programs including the Super Bowl LVI halftime show earlier this month.
