Seattle rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot performed at Thursday's Seahawks vs 49ers halftime show as part of the NFL's Inspire Change social justice initiative.

According to the NFL, "Inspire Change is dedicated to showcasing the collaborative efforts of clubs across the league to create positive change in communities across the country and ensure that equal opportunity becomes a reality for all."

"The Seahawks are proud to shine a light on people and organizations who are directly creating positive change, breaking barriers and addressing inequities in the communities we serve," said Karen Wilkins-Mickey, Seahawks Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. "We continue to prioritize efforts to combat racism through education and awareness, and initiatives like Inspire Change show our fans how we can come together to foster more inclusive and equitable culture for all."

Sir Mix-A-Lot, born Anthony L. Ray, was honored last month for his relief efforts during the pandemic, and Mayor Bruce Harrell declared November 3 as "Sir Mix-A-Lot Day."

“A Central District kid through and through, Sir Mix-A-Lot fused descriptive storytelling, tongue-in-cheek humor, and old-school beats to create music that put our region on the map for hip-hop,” Mayor Harrell said in a statement. “He has been an influential part of our city’s music scene for decades with a mission to give back to our community, even supporting music venues during Covid-19 closures so the next generation of Seattle’s creatives had spaces to perform. He has embraced a One Seattle approach of uplifting and inspiring the best in each other and is deserving of this recognition.”
