In Snoop Dogg’s recent sit down with Tidal’s Elliot Wilson, he revealed how he secured a deal with Def Jam Records for Griselda’s Benny The Butcher. Snoop, who serves as Executive Consultant for Def Jam, responded to Benny's complaints about being lowballed at the legendary label.
“I said 'they lowballed you? They don’t know who you is?,'" Snoop explained. "'I’m going to call the boss. You’re going to tell the boss what you want, and he’s and he’s going to give you what you want and you’re going to sign.'”
Snoop also said that his strategy is to overcharge. “I’m always going to pattern it for the artist, especially Hip-Hop artists. You never know what you’re worth until you overcharge. That’s what we need to know. A lot of times, we be scared. I go in and overcharge.”
Snoop, who also acquired Death Row Records last month, also spoke about fulfilling his obligations to Def Jam before making the Death Row purchase; and one of the things that he wanted to accomplish was getting Benny signed. And in addition to that, he was intent on dropping his own Snoop Dogg Presents: Algorithm project.
