This year's Super Bowl Halftime Show is the talk of the entertainment world. Fans are buzzing in anticipation of the game's first all-Hip-Hop Halftime spectacular. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar are headlining the big show.
At a recent press conference inside the Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles with Dre and Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg said: “We appreciate the NFL for even entertaining Hip Hop because we know that a lot of people didn’t want Hip Hop on stage. We’re here now and there ain’t nothing you can do about it.”
According to Reuters, the Super Bowl LVI halftime show is expected to attract a US television audience of around 100 million people. Though Rap artists have performed at Super Bowl halftime, they have always shared the stage with Rock or Pop acts. The NFL invited Jay-Z to perform in 2017, but he refused and told The New York Times that the NFL was still treating Rap like a fad. Jay-Z later partnered with the NFL with the goal of advancing social justice and his company Roc Nation is a producer of Sunday’s half time show.
Dr. Dre said recently: “I think that we are going to do a fantastic show. And we are going to do it so big that they can’t deny us any more in the future. Hip Hop is the biggest genre of music on the planet right now, so it’s crazy that it took all of this time for us to be recognized. We are going to open more doors for Hip Hop artists in the future, making sure that the NFL understands that this is what it should have been a long time ago.” Dre continued “I’m not trying to be egotistical, but who else could do this show in L.A.?”
