Fans of Verzuz, the wildly popular music platform where artists compete in a celebration of catalogs voiced their displeasure over a perceived change in the way that the program is viewed. While promoting tonight’s Anthony Hamilton Verzuz Musiq Soulchild battle royale several entries were made to the Verzuz Instagram page stating that users would have to sign up for a monthly subscription to view the event, and that no free options were available. Verzuz co-founder Swizz Beatz hopped on IG to extinguish the fire. “See y’all right here tomorrow. You can also watch in HD on verzuztv.com. I was out of the country don’t ask me who did it, its fixed."
Verzuz, which gained popularity two years ago largely because of the Covid 19 pandemic had been free to view until these recent posts. Fans of the platform posted “Wow, will see it on YouTube after!”, “Not even with a gun to my head” and “Of ALLLLLL VERZUZ why tf would you not put this one on IG. Y’all starting to cater to the wrong audience damn shame SMH.” Another fan wrote “Y’all went and messed up a good thing. This was supposed to be fun and now y’all tryin’ to make us pay for an online concert essentially, I’m good. I’d rather see them on tour where they will sing the whole song.” You can view tonights Verzuz for free.99 on verzuztv.com at 5:30PM PT/8:30PM ET.
